What is NIEW?
NIEW stands for NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women (NIEW).
What is NAM?
NAM is an international organizations of 118 states (see attachments) which consider themselves not formally aligned with or against any major bloc.
What is the purpose of NIEW?
- NIEW is an International learning institute dedicated to women’s empowerment and advancement through training and capacity building.
- It is established under the purview of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, on 1st July 2006 as stated in the Putrajaya Declaration and Programme of Action 2005, endorsed during the 1st NAM Ministerial Meeting for the Advancement of Women, held in Putrajaya.
- NIEW will serve as a focal point to enhance cooperation among NAM Member Countries as well as other countries on gender development and empowerment.
What are the types of programmes offered by NIEW
There are four types of programmes offered by NIEW.
- A standard two week course on critical areas such as Women in Politics and Economy, ICT and Education, Health and Violence Against Women.
- Conferences and seminar will be held in alternate years.
- Research and publication will be concurrently undertaken following the conferences where proceeding will be circulated.
- NIEW Gender Series, a series of talk and sharing of experiences on women’s issues in the respective NAM Member Countries delivered by representatives of respective embassies in Malaysia.
