NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women (NIEW), has organised the Minister’s Luncheon with Ambassadors hosted by Hon. Dato’ Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil on 11 February 2010, at The Ritz Carlton, Kuala Lumpur.  60 Ambassadors from various countries has graced the event. This event was also attended by the Deputy Minister, Hon. Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun and all head of agencies under the Ministry.

 As a norm I successfully avoid speaking at these functions as my honourable Minister will do the talking. However this is one occasion when I must say something as two of the Merdeka Award recipients have touched my life personally. So when Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Shahrizat asked me to organize this function I was ecstatic. And I’m now heading an Institution that is tasked with developing women so as to ensure that they will be empowered, I thought that is only appropriate that at this occasion when we are honouring 3 great ladies that we focus on their role in empowering other women. After all at the Merdeka Award ceremony they have been recognized for all their other outstanding contributions to the nation and society.

On 13 January 2010, a Korean Delegation headed by Honorable Mdm. Lee Ae Joo, Member of National Assembly of the Republic of Korea has visited NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women (NIEW). Also in the delegation were several other members of the National Assembly, namely, Mr. Lee Hwa Soo, Mdm. Choi Young Hee, Mdm. Kwak Jung Sook and the Senior Director of Gender Equality Committee, Mdm. Kim Kwee Soon.
